Positive Thinking

Meditation

Some believe that 'positive thinking' or a 'strengths focus' is the answer to build authentic confidence. But by itself, it never works. When we feel negative about ourselves, or with something in our lives, we must take notice of this. If we don't, we will live in a polarised state in which we try to think one way to override how we feel inside. Hence, consciously thinking one way, but are being the opposite. Research shows that when the mind and body are in opposition, change will never happen. My strengths-based meditations nurture the mind-body connection for authentic confidence.

Why Meditate?

Meditations can be thought of as a form of brain training. The conscious mind is the master of the body. However, limiting beliefs manifest within the subconscious resulting in the body becoming the master. Although the mind may think its still in charge, the body influences decisions equal to its limiting beliefs and accompanied emotions (i.e., fear and anger). Meditation trains the mind to be the master of the body and reprogram limiting beliefs.

Character Strengths

Exploration of character strengths accurately emphasizes a positive self-image, which is valuable for dyslexic adults struggling with limiting beliefs but wanting to flourish. When facing a perceived threat, such as thinking believing one is unworthy or inadequate, these beliefs call forth recollections of past negative experiences and accompanied emotions (i.e., fear and anger). The person can get stuck in a cycle of the body influencing decisions equal to these limiting beliefs.

Training the mind with mediations infused with character strengths increases cognitive reappraisals and decrease negative self-consciousness and social comparison. Consciously applying character strengths enables an authentic confidence to flourish with dyslexia.
